REDS Fall To X-Men
(FREDERICTON, NB) The UNB REDS dropped a hard-fought 73-65 decision to the STFX X-Men Sunday in the final game of the 2025 REDS Invitational pre-season tournament.
The REDS, who led 51-49 after three quarters, ran into a hot D. J. Jackson.
The veteran X-Men guard scored a game-high 34 points to lead the visitors while Matt Pennell added 11.
Jackson was named Player of the Game as well as a tournament all-star.
Connor Landell led the REDS' effort with a double-double, 17 points and 11 rebounds.
Marcus Barnes contributed 16 points and was named a tournament all-star.
The X-Men, the Manitoba Bisons and the Carleton Ravens all finished the weekend 2-1, but the Bisons claimed the tournament title on point differential. The REDS finished 0-3.
In Sunday's early game, Manitoba beat the Ravens 94-70.
Mason Kraus, named player of the game, scored a game-high 30 points to lead the Manitobans while Ramogi Nyagudi added 20.
Abraham Osman and Louth-Mohamed Coulibaly led the Ravens with 12 points each.
Kraus and Bisons teammate Daren Watts, along with Carleton's Aubrey Dorey-Havens, were named tournament all-stars. Kraus was also named tournament MVP.
The REDS now prepare to head to the Queen's Tournament, in Kingston, Ontario, in two weeks where they'll face Western and Mount Royal along with the hosts.
UNB's 2025-2026 home and Atlantic University Sport season opener is scheduled for Friday, October 24th, when they host the UPEI Panthers. Game time is 8:00pm.
