REDS Win, Barnes Reaches 1000 Point Plateau
(FREDERICTON, NB) Marcus Barnes scored 15 points, including the 1000th regular season point of his career, to help the UNB REDS beat the Saint Mary's Huskies 91-55 in Atlantic University Sport men's basketball action, Friday night at UNB's Richard J. Currie Center.
Barnes handed out six assists as well and was named the Tim Horton's Player of the Game.
The home team dominated the opening quarter, racing out to a 23-10 lead.
That domination extended into the second frame when the REDS added 26 points to take a 49-26 lead to the half-time break.
Saint Mary's showed signs of life in the third quarter but just couldn't rein in the REDS.
Barnes' historic moment came just past the mid-way point of the third quarter on a lay-up that pushed UNB's lead to 31 points at 66-35.
He becomes the 17th UNB men's basketball player to score at least 1000 points.
