REDS Finish Second
(FREDERICTON, NB) The UNB REDS dropped an 88-76 decision to the STFX X-Men in their final Atlantic University Sport regular season game, Saturday night at UNB's Richard J. Currie Center.
The teams were tied 46-46 at the half, but the X-Men limited UNB to just 14 points in the third quarter and 16 more in the fourth on route to their win.
Conner Landell scored 17 points and grabbed 11 rebounds to lead the REDS.
Marcus Barnes scored 16 points and moved into fourth place all-time in UNB men's basketball regular season scoring with 1307 points.
Eden Otshudi scored 13 and handed out five assists, and Brandon Laryea contributed four rebounds and four blocks. He finishes his regular season career as the second all-time shot blocker in UNB men's basketball history, with 81, and the program's eighth all-time rebounder, with 477.
Owen Frayne scored a game-high 25 points for the X-Men while Phoenyx Wise scored 22 and pulled down a dozen rebounds.
DJ Jackson also scored 22 points for X.
UNB finishes the regular season with a 13-7 record, good for second place in the AUS standings and a first-round bye at the upcoming conference championship tournament, in Halifax.
At 17-3, the X-Men finish in first place and also earn a first-round playoff bye.
Both teams await to-be-determined opponents in the AUS semi-finals.
