(FREDERICTON, NB) Cody Morgan scored twice to lead the UNB REDS to a 4-1 win over the STFX X-Men in Atlantic University Sport men's hockey action, Friday night at UNB's Aitken Centre.
Morgan, named the Tim Horton's Player of the Game, scored his first goal at the 8:42 mark of the opening period, a one-timer on a nice set up by Cole Huckins.
The X-Men tied the game at 12:57 of the second period on a goal by Logan Chisholm, who tipped a shot from the blue line passed a screened Remi Delafontaine in the UNB net.
Morgan potted his second, and the eventual game-winner, about four-and-a-half minutes later, another one-timer with the REDS working on the powerplay.
Jax Dubois and Camaryn Baber added goals just 23 seconds apart in the third period to cement the win for the REDS, who've now won three straight.
Delafontaine made 21 saves on 22 shots for the win while Patrick Leaver gave up the four UNB goals on 39 shots.
With the win, the REDS improve to 14-8-1-0 (W-L-OTL-SOL), good for third place in the AUS standings. The X-Men are 9-11-0-3 and sit sixth.
The REDS return to action Saturday afternoon when they host the Dalhousie Tigers. Game time is 4:00pm. STFX visits UPEI for a 7:00pm start.
