(FREDERICTON, NB) The UNB REDS edged the Mount Allison Mounties 1-0 Sunday afternoon in Atlantic University Sport men's soccer action.
Third-year REDS forward Hunter Delahunt scored the game's only goal in the 23rd minute when he raced behind Mount Allison's back line and beat Mounties' keeper Rhys Chambers with a hard shot to the lower right corner of the net.
The goal was Delahunt's fifth of the season, tying him for the lead in the conference's goal-scoring race.
UNB took that 1-0 lead into the half-time break.
In the second half, the teams were locked in a defensive struggle that produced little in the way of offensive opportunities.
Jensen Brown earned the clean sheet in the UNB net, while Chambers suffered the loss for the Mounties.
The REDS are now 2-2-1 (W-L-T) and sit sixth in the AUS standings.
Mount Allison remains winless and at the bottom of the table.
The REDS will take their show on the road next week for a pair of games in Halifax. They open the weekend Friday night at Saint Mary's. Game time is 7:30pm.
The Mounties will also be in Halifax on Friday evening, taking on Dalhousie.
