REDS Win Road Pair
(WOLFVILLE, NS) The UNB REDS scored two critical weekend road wins.
On Friday, Caleb Kemper scored twice, including the eventual game winner, and Alex Oprea set up a pair as the REDS dismantled the Saint Mary's Huskies 5-1.
"It was great to score my first two goals and do my part to help the team win," said Kemper. "I couldn't have done it without great performances from my teammates. We were so good."
Hunter Delahunt, Ehab Moustafa, and Saif Mazhar also scored for the REDS while Jensen Brown recorded the win in net.
Brown earned a clean sheet on Sunday as the REDS picked up three more points with a 1-0 win at Acadia.
The highlight of the afternoon was Brown's save of a penalty kick in the 72nd minute.
"It's always nice to stop a penalty, and the energy after that moment was a huge help in seeing out the rest of what was a very difficult game," said Brown. "The boys knew what was at stake this weekend and delivered two good wins to build off last week's results."
Liam McGowan's goal in the 12th minute stood as the winner.
"The game was a battle from start to finish," said REDS' head coach Barry Morrison. "They had some good chances late, but we showed excellent resilience to stay focused and keep a clean sheet. Jensen made some outstanding saves late to earn us the win."
The game was a feisty affair with a total of eight yellow cards being thrown, five to the Axemen and three to UNB.
"This was a very good weekend for our team against two good teams," said Coach Morrison. "To get six points, away from home, at this point in the season was critical to help us continue to climb the table."
The REDS are now 4-2-1 (W-L-T) and sit 5th in the Atlantic University Sport standings, behind a four-way tie for first. Dal, STFX, Moncton, and Cape Breton are all currently 5-1-1.
UNB will host the Tigers in a pair of games this Saturday and Sunday. Both games are scheduled for 3:30pm starts.
