Arnfast & Howse Lead REDS On Day 1 Of AUS
(MONCTON, NB) Oliver Arnfast led the UNB REDS with a pair of gold medals on the first day of competition at the 2026 Atlantic University Sport Track & Field Championships, in Moncton.
Arnfast won the men's pole vault and 60-metre hurdles.
In the 60-metre hurdles, Arnfast and Dalhousie's Jonah Gratton ran a virtual dead heat with Arnfast edging Gratton by 2/1000ths of a second, 8.426 seconds to 8.428 seconds.
Jared Howse won the men's 3000-metres and UNB won the men's 4-by-800-metre relay, beating second place STFX by almost eight seconds.
Hannah Barnard and Haley Angus led the REDS women, winning the high jump and triple jump respectively.
In the women's 4-by-200-metre relay, UNB beat Dal by 14/100ths of a second for the gold medal.
UNB ran second in the women's 4-by-800.
Sierra Rodrigues earned the silver medal in the women's 1000-metres while Anna Somers was second in the 300-metres.
In the women's 60-metre hurdles, Allison Dewar took the bronze medal with teammate Anne Vogt a close fourth.
Caden Wolverton was second in the men's 300-metres, finish 3/10ths of a second out of first, and Hayden McKinnon grabbed the bronze medal in the men's 1000-metres.
UNB was second in the men's 4-by-200-metre relay.
The conference championship meet concludes Saturday.
