REDS Head Home After Tough Laval Weekend
(QUEBEC CITY, QC) The UNB REDS dropped a 3-0 decision to the Laval Rouge et Or in RSEQ men's volleyball play, Saturday in Quebec City.
The hosts won 32-30, 25-20, and 25-18.
Lucas Maffia had 10 kills to lead the REDS. Moritz Möhring contributed seven kills and seven digs.
In the marathon first set, UNB did enjoy an early lead. Laval was able to creep back in using short runs to take the extended frame.
"We had a great chance to take that first set, but just couldn't quite finish," said REDS' head coach Dan McMorran. "Still, it was a valuable experience for our young group, and there's plenty of positive momentum to take into next weekend."
UNB registered 10 blocks on Saturday, including four by second-year setter Finn McMorran.
Max Losier led Laval with 15 kills and six digs. Felix-Antoine Perron had 13 kills.
"We made progress across the board," said Coach McMorran. "We were better in every statistical category, and a much more consistent effort overall."
The REDS hit home court for the first time this season on Friday night. They host Dalhousie in their home opener. First serve is scheduled for 8:00pm at the Richard J. Currie Center.
