REDS Blank Tigers, Sweep Weekend
(HALIFAX, NS) The UNB REDS beat the Dalhousie Tigers 3-0 in RSEQ men’s volleyball action, Saturday in Halifax, to sweep a two-match weekend series.
The REDS won with scores of 25-21, 26-24, and 25-22.
“I’m very pleased with our guys this weekend,” said REDS’ head coach Dan McMorran. “These were two wins that we needed to secure, and with these being the first games since November coupled with being on the road, I thought we battled well.”
Lucas Maffia led the REDS with 15 kills and nine digs. Benjamin Sullivan chipped in with 10 kills and Finn McMorran registered 29 assists.
“This was an extremely important two games for us to start the second semester,” said Maffia. “I think we came out very strong and ready to go. I’m proud of how well the boys played together, whether it was the guys starting or coming off the bench, everyone contributed to the wins.”
Saturday’s win follows Friday’s 3-1 triumph.
“Several players contributed in both matches,” added Coach McMorran. “This depth will be important in the weeks ahead.”
The REDS are now 6-4, good for third place in the RSEQ standings, while the Tigers remain winless, at 0-10.
UNB’s next action will be on home court.
The REDS host Sherbrooke on Friday in the first match of a weekend series. The tilt is scheduled to start at 6:00pm.
The Tigers visit Laval the same night.
