REDS Bow Out Of RSEQ Playoffs
(MONTREAL, QC) The UNB REDS saw their season end Saturday in a 3-1 loss to the Montreal Carabins in the second game of their RSEQ semi-final series, in Montreal.
With Saturday's win, Montreal wins the best-of-three series two games to none.
The top-seeded Carabins won the first set 25-19 and took the second set by the same 25-19 score.
The REDS fought back and took the third set 25-14 before falling 25-21 in a hard fought fourth set.
"I'm incredibly proud of us, to be able to take a set after being down 2-0 and to continue to fight until the very end of the game," said UNB's Lucas Maffia. "It's not the result we were searching for this weekend, but as a team we can keep our heads high because we fought until the last point and played well against the top team in our conference."
Benjamin Sullivan led the REDS with a dozen kills and three blocks while Finn McMorran had a match-high 43 assists along with nine digs and four blocks.
Nicolas Losier contributed 12 kills and Alex Bourque had nine digs. Lex Guimond added eight kills and three blocks.
Hugo Considere and Simon Coulet both struck 12 kills for Montreal while Alexandre Ste-Denis had 11 digs and Maxime Ste-Denis put up 34 assists and six blocks. Ghassen Zgarni also set six blocks for the Carabins.
"I'm extremely proud of our team and our effort this weekend, and the massive growth that was able to occur throughout the season," said REDS' head coach Dan McMorran. "We're graduating three valuable student-athletes who'll be greatly missed, but we have an exciting wealth of talent returning who already have their sights set on the 2026-2027 season."
Montreal will face Laval in the RSEQ championship series.
