(WOLFVILLE, NS) The Acadia Axewomen grabbed a big four-point 88-53 win over the visiting UNB Reds on Friday night.
The Axewomen controlled the scoreboard and forced several shot clock violations against the Reds, building a 19-13 first quarter lead.
By the first intermission, the Reds trailed the Axewomen 42-28.
The Axewomen were scoring from all angles, shooting well from both the field (16 of 37 - 43.2%) and from three-point range (5 of 11 - 45.5%) in the first half.
Acadia's Jayda Veinot (Port Williams, NS) finished the game with 20 points, seven rebounds, and seven assists. Her performance locked up the game and the Subway Player of the Game Award.
Acadia scored 31 points in the third, leading 73-45 after 30 minutes, on route to their 88-53 win.
UNB guard Mikaela Dodig (Bolton, ON) had the best numbers for her team, putting up 17 point, six rebounds and three assists.
The one area that the Reds excelled in was their free throws, as they made 13 of 15 attempts. In all other aspects of the game, Acadia was the superior team.
The Reds play their second four-point game of the weekend on Saturday, at Saint Mary's.
The Axewomen are scheduled to visit Sydney, N.S. on Sunday for a match against the 10-1 Cape Breton Capers.
