REDS Adding Jenkins In Transfer
(FREDERICTON, NB) The UNB REDS women’s basketball team is adding veteran guard Alyssa Jenkins as a graduate transfer from the Memorial University Sea-Hawks.
She’ll join the REDS ahead of the 2025-2026 Atlantic University Sport season.
The St. John’s native averaged 12.2 points and 4.8 rebounds per game in 2024-2025.
“I’m delighted that Alyssa will be joining our program next season,” said REDS’ head coach Erin McAleenan. “She’s been one of the top perimeter players in the AUS for the last few seasons and her experience will be a great addition.”
“UNB has always had a strong basketball program, and with one year of eligibility left as I start law school, it feels like the perfect opportunity to be part of a team that’s in serious contention for a championship,” said Jenkins. “Ending my career competing for a title would be an incredible way to close out this chapter.”
Jenkins played three seasons at Memorial, appearing in 49 regular season games and scoring 540 points on 33.5% shooting from the field. She recorded 211 rebounds and 48 steals.
“I believe I bring valuable experience and leadership to the team along with an aggressive and competitive style of play,” said Jenkins.
“Alyssa is a strong and tough competitor,” added Coach McAleenan. “Her ability to get to the rim, draw fouls, and be a threat from outside the arc will be a welcome addition to our offensive attack. At the defensive end, her athleticism, strength, and versatility will bode well with our style of play.”
Jenkins says with only a single year of eligibility remaining, her goal will be doing everything she can to help the REDS win an AUS championship.
“Between a strong core of returners and a talented and experienced recruiting class, I’m very optimistic about the potential of our group for next season,” said McAleenan.
