REDS Fall At Acadia
(WOLFVILLE, NS) The UNB REDS suffered their first loss of the 2025-2026 Atlantic University Sport women's basketball season, dropping an 83-69 to the Acadia Axewomen, Friday evening in Wolfville.
The Axewomen raced out to a 30-18 first quarter lead and took a 51-38 lead to the half-time break.
UNB rallied and closed the gap in the third quarter but allowed Acadia to reestablish their big lead in the fourth to win by 14.
Maheva Ngassam led the REDS with 16 points and nine rebounds while Alyssa Jenkins came off the REDS bench to score 15 points.
Leah Travers pulled down eight rebounds and, in limited minutes in her season debut, Katie Butts scored nine points and grabbed three rebounds.
Butts' third rebound was the 650th of her AUS regular season career and moved her past Laura Swift (649) and into second on the REDS' all-time rebound list. Kara Palmer registered 729 rebounds during her UNB career (1988-89 through 1992-93). Butts is now 19th on the AUS all-time list.
Samantha Russell scored a game-high 32 points to lead the home team.
Sarah Delorey added 15 and Bianca Helmig scored 14 points and distributed nine assists.
The REDS are now 6-1 and share top spot in the AUS with the STFX X-Women. Acadia improves to 5-2.
The REDS continue their weekend road swing Saturday at Dalhousie. Tip-off is scheduled for 6:00pm.
The Axewomen will play host to UPEI.
