Butts Leads REDS In Island Win
(CHARLOTTETOWN, PE) Katie Butts scored 22 points to lead the U SPORTS No. 6 ranked UNB REDS to an 81-53 win over the UPEI Panthers in Atlantic University Sport women's basketball action, Friday night in Charlottetown.
Butts added 13 rebounds, three assists, and three blocks.
The REDS took a commanding 24-11 lead in the first quarter and never looked back.
UNB limited the home team to just half a dozen fourth quarter points while scoring 26 of their own.
Ann Bastien scored 12 in the UNB victory and Katie McAffee added 11.
Prince Edward Island native Zoe Olscamp came off the REDS' bench to score eight points and grab a dozen rebounds.
Grace Lancaster and Ella Simmons both had 10 points for the Panther while the UPEI bench contributed just 13 points on the night.
The win, UNB's seventh straight, pushes the REDS's record to 13-1. They continue to lead the AUS standings.
The Panthers are now 9-4 and sit in a three-way tie for second place with STFX and Acadia.
The REDS and Panthers tangle again on Saturday afternoon. Tip-off is scheduled for 2:00pm.
