REDS Bounce X-Women
(FREDERICTON, NB) The UNB REDS wrapped up their 2025-2026 Atlantic University Sport regular season with an 80-52 win over the STFX X-Women, Saturday evening at UNB's Richard J. Currie Center.
Kylee Speedy led the REDS with 17 points, including three three-point baskets, earning Tim Horton's Player of the Game honours.
The REDS pushed out to a 26-14 lead after the first ten minutes and extended their advantage in the second quarter to lead 42-25 at the half.
The X-Women tried to keep it close in the third quarter, cutting ever so slightly into the UNB, but the REDS took a 57-44 lead to the fourth.
UNB pulled away in the final quarter, outscoring the X-Women 23-8 for their 28-point margin of victory.
Zoe Olscamp came off the UNB bench to score 11 points and grab seven rebounds.
Ann Bastien scored 10 points and dished out five assists, and Maheva Ngassam dropped 11 points.
Katie Butts put up eight points and pulled down half a dozen rebounds in her final regular season game.
Butts ends her regular season career as the all-time leading rebounder in UNB women's basketball history with 776. She's fourth all-time in scoring, with 1164 points, and second all-time in blocked shots with 106.
Shannon Neita led the X-Women. She scored a game-high 19 points and grabbed seven rebounds.
Reegan Bell, coming off the X bench, added eight points and four rebounds.
The REDS finish atop the AUS standings with an 18-2 record.
The X-Women finish fourth at 13-7.
Next up for both teams is next weekend's AUS Basketball Championships, in Halifax.
The REDS have earned a bye through to Saturday's semi-final round where they'll face a to-be-determined opponent. The X-Women will face the fifth-seeded Saint Mary's Huskies.
