Reds Add Goaltender To 2020 Class
Madison Tucker signs U SPORTS LOI
(FREDERICTON, NB) The UNB Reds are adding goaltending depth as they continue to build their recruiting class of 2020.
Madison Tucker, from Baxter, Ontario, has signed a U SPORTS Letter of Intent, and will join the Reds beginning in the 2020-2021 Atlantic University Sport season.
“We’re excited to add Madi to our 2020 class, and I know she’ll be a goaltender that will add to our depth as a team,” said Reds head coach Sarah Hilworth. “Madi brings size. She tracks the puck well, and we are excited to see how she develops with our goalies under our goaltending coach Kyle MacDonald.”
Tucker is currently skating with the Barrie Sharks Midget AA team.
“I’m honoured and excited about this opportunity,” said Tucker. “Everyone I’ve talked to seems extremely friendly and I know the atmosphere is going to be amazing.”
“The opportunity to work with UNB’s coaching staff, and to work alongside Kendra Woodland, Hailey Martens and Hilary Cashin set UNB apart. UNB is a small university, and coming from a small town in Ontario, I feel it will be a great fit.”
Earlier this year, Tucker and her Bear Creek Secondary School Kodiacs teammates took part in Ontario’s women’s hockey high school championship tournament.
This past summer, Tucker backstopped Team Ontario (U19) to a national ball hockey championship, in Vancouver. Tucker and her teammates did not allow a goal during the tournament. Tucker was subsequently selected as a member of the team that will represent Canada at the 2020 U20 World Ball Hockey Championship, in Slovakia.
“We’re confident that Madi will come into our room and add to our culture,” said Hilworth.
Tucker will join UNB’s Faculty of Kinesiology and enter the Recreation and Sport Studies program.
