(FREDERICTON, NB) The UNB REDS scored a pair of power-play goals in a 3-0 win Saturday as they salvaged the back end of a home-and-home weekend series with the St. Thomas Tommies, at Fredericton's Grant-Harvey Centre.
REDS' captain Payton Hargreaves' late second period power-play goal proved to be the winner, coming at the 18:22 mark.
Jamie Arsenault scored even strength mid-way through the third and Rylee Strohm added a late power-play marker to make it a 3-0 game.
On Friday, the Tommies edged the REDS 1-0 in a goaltender's duel at UNB's Aitken Centre.
After taking the loss Friday, UNB's Cassie McCallum rebounded and stopped all 17 shots she faced on Saturday.
Taylor Cohen took the loss in the St. Thomas net, surrendering three goals on 26 shots.
With the win, the REDS improve to 3-2-0-0 (W-L-OTL-SOL) and climb into a four-way tie for fourth place in the Atlantic University Sport standings.
The Tommies are part of that four-way tie for fourth at 3-3-0-0.
The REDS head to Halifax next weekend with stops at Dalhousie on Friday night and Saint Mary's on Saturday afternoon.
