(HALIFAX, NS) The UNB REDS scored a pair of road wins in Halifax on the weekend, beating the Dalhousie Tigers 2-0 on Friday before a come-from-behind 3-1 win at Saint Mary's on Saturday.
"I'm really proud of how our team competed all weekend," said REDS' head coach Sarah Hilworth. "We played with structure, confidence, and found ways to win in different ways both games."
On Friday, Rylee Strohm and Avery Thurston scored third period powerplay goals to put the REDS ahead in what had been a scoreless draw.
Hannah LeClair made 13 saves on 13 shots for the shutout.
On Saturday, the REDS gave up goal just 1:49 into the first period to SMU's Ava Shearer before settling into a defensive struggle for almost two full periods.
UNB exploded in the third with goals from Lilly Bell, Olivia Eustace, and Robyn Brokenshire.
Cassie McCallum made 16 saves in the win for UNB while Ridleigh Hansen took the loss in the Huskies net, making 14 saves on 17 REDS shots.
"Anytime you can sweep a weekend in this league, it's a testament to the team's preparation and commitment to doing the little things right," said Coach Hilworth. "Competition is tight this season. Every team can win on any given night, so these points are valuable going forward."
The weekend wins push UNB's record to 5-2-0-0 (W-L-OTL-SOL).
The REDS return to home ice on Friday when they host the STFX X-Women. Game time is 7:00pm.
