(ANTIGONISH, NS) In a battle of the top two teams in Atlantic University Sport women's hockey, the UNB REDS came up flat, dropping a 5-1 decision to the STFX X-Women, Friday night in Antigonish.
The X-Women scored twice in the second period and added two more in the third to earn the win.
Avery Thurston scored mid-way through the third period to make it a 4-1 game before X added their fifth goal.
Cassie McCallum made 28 saves on 33 shots for UNB, while Brooklyn Oakes made 21 saves on 22 shots to earn first star honours.
Ireland McCloskey finished the night with a goal and an assist for the home team.
The REDS and X-Women now share identical 9-3-0-0 (W-L-OTL-SOL) records.
UNB continues their weekend road trip in Sackville on Saturday night when they visit the winless Mount Allison Mounties. Game time is 7:00pm.
