(FREDERICTON, NB) Payton Hargreaves reached a pair of career milestones Friday night as the UNB REDS beat the Mount Allison Mounties 5-1 in Atlantic University Sport women's hockey action, Friday at UNB's Aitken Centre.
Hargreaves' assist on Hillary Wood's goal at 4:32 of the third period was the 54th regular season assist of her career and tied Lily George (2018-2024) atop UNB women's hockey's career assists list. The assist was the 101st point of Hargreaves' career, tying her with George as the program's all-time points leaders.
Katelyn Scott opened the scoring for the home team near the mid-way point of the opening period.
Just over a minute later, Rylee Strohm scored the eventual game winner.
Scott finished the night with a goal and two assists while Strohm and Olivia Eustace each had a goal and an assist.
Jorja Nystrom recorded a pair of assists while Taya Christie stopped 21 of 22 shots for the win in the UNB net.
Silia Gregg faced 42 shots in the Mounties' net, stopping 37.
Chelsea Krahenbil scored Mount Allison's lone goal.
The REDS win combined with a STFX loss at St. Thomas gives UNB sole possession of first place in the AUS standings with a record of 15-4-0-0 (W-L-OTL-SOL).
The Mounties remain winless at 0-19-0-0.
The REDS skate back into action on Saturday afternoon when they host the X-Women in a battle of the top two teams in the conference.
The Mounties visit St. Thomas on Saturday.
