(MONCTON, NB) Payton Hargreaves scored with just 2:37 to play to tie the game and was one of two REDS to score in a shootout as the UNB REDS beat l'Universitè de Moncton Aigles Bleues 2-1 in Atlantic University Sport women's hockey action in Moncton on Saturday night.
With the REDS short-handed, Hargreaves took a quick pass from Olivia Eustace and raced in alone on Moncton goalie Annick Boudreau, beating her five-hole to tie the game 1-1.
Maritza Labrie had scored in the second period to stake the home team to a 1-0 lead.
Overtime solved nothing and in the shootout Katelyn Scott and Hargreaves scored to give the REDS the win.
Hargreaves' regulation goal was the 48th of her career and moved her atop the all-time goal scoring list in UNB women's hockey, passing Lily George who scored 47 goals between 2018 and 2024.
With the win, the REDS improve to 17-4-0-1 (W-L-OTL-SOL) while Moncton drops to 10-8-2-2.
Next weekend the REDS face cross-campus rivals St. Thomas in a home-and-home series.
The action begins Friday, at the Grant-Harvey Centre in a 7:00pm faceoff. Game two of that series is Saturday, when the REDS return to home-ice and host the Tommies in another 7:00pm start.
