(FREDERICTON, NB) The UNB REDS scored late to beat the Memorial Sea-Hawks 1-0 in Atlantic University Sport women's soccer action, Friday evening at UNB's BMO Centre.
Second half substitute Jillian Curtis broke a scoreless tie in the 84th minute.
The third-year midfielder took a crossing pass in the box, stepped around a lunging Sea-Hawks keeper Leana Claude and deposited the ball into the Memorial net.
Curtis was named Tim Horton's Player of the Game.
In a scoreless first half, the home team appeared to win the possession battle.
The Sea-Hawks were more assertive in the early moments of the second half, but the score remained 0-0 until Curtis' late heroics.
Her goal was well-received by a crowd of about 300, mostly past members of the UNB Soccer programs on hand for the REDS' annual alumni weekend.
With the victory, the REDS are now 3-0-1 (W-L-T) and sit second in the AUS standings. Memorial is now 3-2-0 and in third place.
Both teams are back in action on Sunday afternoon.
The Sea-Hawks visit Moncton for an 11:00am start and the REDS play host to the Mount Allison Mounties. Kick-off is at 1:00pm.
