REDS Women 2nd At AUS Championship
(WOLFVILLE, NS) The UNB REDS finished a strong second in the team standings Saturday at the Atlantic University Sport women's cross country championship, in Wolfville, Nova Scotia.
Emily Doucet and Sierra Rodrigues ran to ninth and tenth place finishes respectively to lead the REDS.
"The race was hard, but I decided to take a risk and go for it," said Doucet. "The last two kilometres were a grind, but it paid off."
Frances MacLeod of Saint Mary's won the individual title and STFX won the women's team title.
UNB's Bridget Jeffrey and Nikolina Kapovic crossed the line in 13th and 14th, while Ivy Bialowas was 16th and Georgia Bernhard was 19th.
"I couldn't be more proud of us," said Doucet. "We worked hard all season for this. We had nothing to lose and we put it all down on the course. It was tough, but placing one spot higher than last year was awesome."
"It was a great run by our women," said REDS' head coach Chris Belof. "They executed our race plan well. It was a full team effort and I'm really proud of them."
Next on the calendar for the REDS, the U SPORTS Cross Country Championships, in Sherbrooke, Quebec, on November 8th.
