REDS Drop Weekend Opener
(FREDERICTON, NB) The visiting Sherbrooke Vert et Or beat the UNB REDS in straight sets in RSEQ men's volleyball play, Friday evening at UNB's Richard J. Currie Center.
The Vert et Or won with scores of 25-21, 25-12, and 25-22.
The visitors rallied from behind to win the opening set.
UNB led from the outset before Sherbrooke took the lead at 20-19 on route to the 25-21 victory.
In the second set, the REDS raced out to an early 5-0 lead before the Vert et Or fought back, took the lead and held it, winning 25-12.
The REDS rallied from a four-point deficit to tie the third set 20-20, but Sherbrooke scored five of the final seven points for the 25-22 win and the 3-0 triumph.
Finn McMorran led the REDS with nine digs and 30 assists while Lucas Maffia registered 10 kills, and Connor Waugh added seven digs.
Sherbrooke's Hugo Ouellet had a match-high 15 kills. He also contributed 10 digs.
Olivier Ducharme pitched 38 assists and Emile Barrette put up four blocks.
With the loss, the REDS record drops to 6-and-5, still good for third place in the RSEQ standings.
Sherbrooke improves to 4-and-7.
The REDS and Vert et Or meet again Saturday afternoon in the second match of their weekend series. First serve is scheduled for 1:00pm.
